I Am The Weirdo

How many times did you got the bus and people looked at you like you were an Αlien? How many times had you notice unknown people on the road look at you leeringly ?

It happens to everyone who has an alternative style. It happens also to me People are getting used to to see around the common, just think a little bit this: every time a new item is getting a trend, more and more girls want to get it. It could be anything,a choker top,a couple of overknee boots or a jean. Every average trendy girl who has as role model Kardasian sisters want to have too what other girls have. Their way of thinking is “I want this too”

Here its you, my darling, who want to be different from the mainstream fashion. Your style, no matter if it is Goth or Pin Up or Kawaii, you differ from others .So… first of all you have to accept into you and think carefully if this is something you really want.
For instance dont dye your hair pink if you still hesitate about how to get out of your door because people will laugh with you. You have to be sincere to yourself about how you want your style look like and what message you pass to the others. When you already have thought all these things and you came to the conclusion that an alternative style express your true self , you have to be prepared to face the consequences and mainly people’s reaction.

Are you ready to support your clothing choice and fight for your style?
If yes, everytime someone say something on you about the way you dress, just keep on your mind these:

1- You wear that makes you feel happy ,stylish and comfortable. If you like the way you look like, DON’T GIVE A FUCK!

2- Your style express your personality. If someone tries to change your style, he/she tries to change you. People have to accept you as you already are. It doesn’t worth to change in order to like to someone else. If he/she doesn’t like the way YOU dress, its his/her problem.

3- You can keep your style and be a professional at the same time. If your hair is blue or you have many tattoos, it doesn’t mean that you are not productive on your work. Only narrow-minded people think in that way.

4- No matter If you are 20 or 30 or 40, single, married either a mother, you can keep your alternative style as you grow up. It is you, but you are older. Maybe as you re growing up you will develop your style but it doesn’t mean you have to be another person . Mothers worth to wear Νew Rock boots too!

5- Have faith to yourself . Claim what you want and prove to the other that you can be good no matter what you wear. You can be a very good student, either a teacher, or a mother ect. Show your personality and prove them that we MUST NOT judge a person from the appearance.

This is the way I m thinking about my style and myself. Trust me , I have accepted very bad criticism about my appearance, but I I have not regretted for my style. I chose to dress with an Alternative way since my 14 years and now I have to say only this :

Alternative At Your Workplace?!

Let’s be honest! It is very difficult to keep your Alternative style in your workplace. Especially  when you work in a demanding enviroment like an office or  a department of a big company. Moreover it depends on the country you live in.Fon instance in Greece most people are biased about people with many tattoos or colorful hair. My opinion is that you must keep your own style and signature in every place and circumstance.
I could never work in a job where my boss obligated me change totaly my style because i’m feeling like they drive me a lobotomy surgery. When you remove your piercing , surger your tattoos or dye your colourful hair and wear their work clothes, you lose your self day by the day. You’re getting a pawn on their chessboard and theprice is the MONEY!

My question is if there is any way to keep your Alternative style in your workplace. The answer is Yes!

First of all, choose a little bit flexible place to work, like a big store with clothes or shoes. An other choice of course is a cofee or bar. When you’re looking for a job, search for a place where the other employees dress up as they want.

Secondly , in a case you work n a very formal place like a civil service or a law firm, you can’t keep your style like it is.You have to change a lot and sacrifice many things on your appearance.

On the other hand, if you re not belong in this category,I am here to give you some examples of how you can make your alternative style look more “formal” without the need to lose your character. So let’s get started!

Be chic!

Instead of                                                                 Prefer

your favourite ripped jean  –  a high waisted pencil black skirt

let your colourful hair down  –   make a low bun

Be comfortable!

Instead of                                                                 Prefer

your goth platform demonia boots  –  your Dr Martens boots

a lace up goth tight   –    a black legging

Be simple!

Instead of                                                                 Prefer

your Killstar coffin backpack  –   a backpack with a few spikes

a full of spikes jacket    –    a classic leather perfecto

To sum up, I absolutely believe that you can be a professional and keep your Alternative Style at the same time.It doesn;t have to transform yourself in someone who you aren’t, all you have to do is to be creative and find tricks to make your Alternative style more “formal” . And don’t forget that even if I’m not look like, I am still a Philologist!

Kill Your Idols-My style story

Everyone has at least one idol as a fashion reference. Someone whom you admire a lot and dream to be like him/her. It is very common phenomenon, especially on a young age when you’ re in a search of your identity and style. That’s how exactly it happened with me.
When I was a little girl I admired the Barbie character on movies. I really loved the princesses. I wanted their pink long dresses and their long blonde hair. As a result for whole my childhood years I was dressing in pink and until high school my schoolmates used to call me Barbie. As I was growing up I change totally my style with a 360 turn. I was so tired of being the pure innocent girl and the good student. I was 14 years old and I was dressing like 11 years old. I considered myself to be a child, not a teen, until the day I decided to make my rebellion. I wanted to be “cool” just like the other girls and guys look at me too.
It was a few months I didn’t have a clue of how I wanted my style looks like. Nothing was attractive enough to wear. I didn’t like the “wannabe adult” clothes that many schoolmates wore, so I chose a more free and alternative style. Even now I can determine that style but I had a new idol now: Avril Lavigne.
It was a period I really tried to experiment with my style. I threw away all of my colorful clothes and for the first time I dressed up totally black. Later I begun to wear color again and combine the black with pink and white, just like my idol did. I bought many accessories with skulls and spiked jewels and I dyed some tufts of my hair pink. The best of all, I wore all those things at school! There wasn’t even one day I would go to school without black eyeliner and skull accessories. Oh god I was such a poser! (Ok lets be honest, I still be a little bit!) I always wanted to be different, not because people ignored me but I had something that was rebelling inside me. Since a child ,I didn’t want to belong in the herd.
The years were passing by and I couldn’t find my true style, so the next person I tried to copy was Joan Jett. When I was on my 17 , I impersonated the tough and wild metal girl. This awesome cool girl who never gets hurt and doesn’t give a fuck. Maybe many schoolmates thought that I was a lesbian but I really didn’t mind. I really didn’t care to look like sexy or femine. And even if that fake girl with big balls wasn’t really me,I didn’t regret for the fact that I really enjoyed my teen rebelling style without trying to be a sexy woman, without wearing too short skirts and open boob tops. If I wouldn’t wear all those casual clothes in my teen years when would be the right time? I never was never in a hurry to grow up.
To continue with the next two years when I really tried to wear everything. One day I was dressing like a glam metal girl and the other day just like Britney Spears. I didn’t have a clue of fashion and what would be the message I wanted to pass with my style. I was in an endless try to be cool, wild ,sexy and stylish. As a result I was dressing like a clown and people around me had the thought I was a disturbed personality. I will say only this: I still remember a day when I went at Uni with orange top and black and white skirt combined with a couple of sandals which were too old-fashioned even for my grandma! Oh my God!

Few months later thanks to Gossip Girl show I found a new fashion idol: Taylor Momsen. Yeah, it was the time to dye my red hair blonde! It was the time to show my sexy side to the world. I ended up  roaming out with overknee underwear shocks and people around me thought I was a call girl. Guess what? I really didn’t give a fuck back then. I believed that I was so fucking awesome. The Taylor Momsen cheap imitation in town . I wore long T-shirts , bondage chokers , hight heels and I did my hair braids just like her! But I hadn’t totally forgot one damn thing, I wasn’t on a stage to dress that way! This girl wasn’t me. I didn’t want to look cheap especially when I am a person who have studied literature and love arts. The only good thing in that try was my awesome silver hair! Thank God Taylor was the last idol I had. After this obsession and a lot thinking , I stopped dressing with that way and I tried harder to find my style.
For two years I didn’t had a good job so I faced a big financial problem. I didn’t have the money to buy all those things I had on my mind. I wore the same clothes all the time and over the last three years I hadn’t bought anything. I was thinking many ways I could transform the old clothes with failed DIY ! Somehow some good clothes ended up to the trash, I was so disappointed. I knew exactly what I would buy but I didn’t have my daddy as a sponsor of my style just like my super gothic stylish friends did. I had to make a living on my own.
My whole life changed a day when I discover an article of how to find your own style. This article really inspired me and drive me to an other one. I begun to read more and more similar articles. Furthermore I begun to watch Youtube videos and search on Pinterest. At least I had found the design for each style and I understood what was wrong with me all those years. When my gaze fell on nu goth style I thought: ” this is exactly how I want my style to look like!” . In the beginning I found all the key clothes of that style and by the time I begun to add more personal details on it. Now It was the time to create my signature style, the appearance that makes me look me, Katherine!

To sum up I really believe it is good to have people you admire their style but use them as an inspiration and not trying to be a copy cap. All of my idols from the Barbie character and Avril Lavigne until Joan Jett and Taylor Momsen, differentiate with their style because they were unique!
You can’t be none else. Please appreciate all those little things that make you different and stop trying to be an other person. Your style reflects your personality and you are unique. Kill your idols and as Oscar Wilde said “Be yourself, everyone else is already taken”

Style on a Budget?!

Are you passionate with fashion and you feel  jealous about all those models on social media with their amazing style? Do you wish you could buy their clothes but they are too expensive for your budget? Do you wish you would be able to dress with a similar way?
I am here with good news for you girl! You can create your own personal style on a budget! Are you ready to know how you will achive this? If yes, let’s get started!

Rule number 1:
Clean up your closet! Oh yes this is something you  can’ t avoid. If you want a new and glamorous style you must get rid of all clothes that look cheap and with bad quality fabric. Moreover you must throw away all the clothes you don’t wear anymore but you still have in your closet.( Come on now, all we have one)
Rule number 2:
Seek inspiration. This means that you have to search on internet and find ideas about how your new style want to looks like. I recomend you to take a look at Pinterest, Tumblr and of course Instagram. There are many outfits and ideas  for any style. There is a big variety to find your own. But be careful use those outfits as an inspiretion and not as a copy, you will adapt them in your personal style.
Rule number 3:
Prefer monochrome. It is so true that one color outfits , especially black or white give a the sense of elegance. This happens because when you avoid the blatant clothes and choose monochrome instead you look much more classical and chic.
Rule number 4:
Choose the right accessories. A simple total white outfit could be much more interesting when  you  design it with the right .accessories. You should avoid accessories that look cheap and have many colors on them. I’m not telling you to buy only real gold of course, What Ι mean is to prefer the small and chic accessories with the color of silver or gold.
Rule number 5:
Always be well-groomed. How will you look chic and elegand if you are dishevelled and your nails look bad? If you want to look stylish you should care not only for your clothes but for your make up, hair and nails too.
I believe that everyone is special .You have to find all those things that make you different and put them on your style. You don’t have to be rich to have an amazing style, you only need to start thinking creatively!

I swear: “I have NOTHING to wear!”

How many times have you said these words in your life?
Me over up to!
How many times even if the fallen clothes had cover your bed , while you screamed to the fashion’s God for help , you still insist that you didn’t have nothing to wear?
Of course girl you’re not insane .Believe me, I was in a same situation for so long. I thought that nothing of my clothes suited me and was really me. That was so true indeed.
I wanted so much to have an alternative, goth and modern style at te same time but I didn’t have no idea how to do this..I was dissapointed.
Everytime that I was dressing for a Saturday night out and I looked myself on the mirror, my clothes didn’t like me at all.. I fell that something on my outfits was totally wrong. They didn’t fit on my body shape as well as made me look fat and flat!  The problem was that I didn’t know what to do, Ι didn’t know where to search for and how I had to buy my clothes.
Somehow with the help of my cousin I started searching and experiments!
I was looking for ideas, new outfit combinations till I found exactly what I wanted to look like. If you find my style-story familiar and feel just like I used to do, keep on reading my tips!
Make a moodboard
If you haven’t yet discover the magic world of Pinterest, it is something you have to do right now! Pinterest is an amazing website where you can find EVERYTHING. The reason that make it so awesome is the possibility to create your own board when you can save pictures from all the clothes you like, isn’t it cool?
Clean your wardrobe
Most times when you have nothing to wear happens because your clothes don’t. represent you. You have only some particular outfits that you wear again and again and again. As a result when you want something for a special case , you can’t find something you really like. Get rid of all the clothes you have in your closet but you don”t wear!
Try new combinations
I’m sure that there are special tops that you always wear with special leggings or shirts. It’s time now to break up your dressing hobits and try a totally new combination. Just try it, you don’t have nothing to lose
Prefer the basics
Sometimes when you can find nothing to wear the only thing you have to do is to chose something classic. Simplicity is the key. Wear your favourite black bodycorn dress combined with a beautiful choker, and voila, you re ready!
So, next time when you think I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR, before you begin yelling and run back and forth your room, take a deep breath and think, what Kai says?!

Fashion Vs Style

Hello again! Did you miss me? I apologize for my absence. I was a quite busy all those days but
now I’m back!! Τhe theme that I chose to write today is the difference between style and fashion!
Sometimes I wonder why young girls admire soooo much the trendy people. Why they admire all the models who wear the latest trends and want to be like them. Why I should run to buy the latest trend at clothes or sunglasses all in all to be IN FASHION?
Why I have to buy something which don’t suits me and the next years it will be outdated? I truly believe that’s the main reason why all the young 15 years old girls look like the same. They buy similar shorts, tops and sunglasses for the same big chain stores. The lack of thinking what is style and what is fashion drive them to dress  exactly like their friends and schoolmates. What is bad about it? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS???
All the girls are being copy paste of each other, all the women are being a Kylie Jenner’s imitation, all humanity are being a herd of sheep that sacrificed at the altar of global market and consumerism.
On the other hand, to have a style means you want to be different. You want to show yourself to the world, to stand in front of the runaways and scream: “BE YOUR SELF! Dress as you want, break up the rules of fashion!” To have a style means not to be afraid of get out of fashion.
Let’s read the top five differences between fashion and style!!
Fashion keeps for a while
Style keeps forever
Fashion is for your wallet
Stye is for your personality
Fashion is what you buy
Style is how to wear it
Fashion can show what you have in your closet
Style can show who you really are
Fashion says “me too”
Style says “only me!”
What are you chosing girl?
